New RAK radars catch three traffic violations at the same time
The Ras Al Khaimah Police have completed installation of 15 radar devices at the major intersections of the emirate. The step is in line with the RAK Police’s strategy aimed at controlling vehicles that do not abide by the speed limits set across the emirate, and for those which jump red signals and other violations.
The radars were installed by the Traffic and Patrols Department in cooperation and coordination with the Department of Electronic Services and Communications under the directives of Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, and the follow-up of Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al-Humaidi, Director General of Central Operations, Ras Al Khaimah Police.
Commenting on the operation, Maj. Gen. Ali Bin Alwan said, “The RAK Police seek through the expansion of deploying new radar control systems, to deter the speed violations and reckless driving. It basically aims at reducing accidents, deaths, injuries and material losses.”
The new devices perform three main functions. They monitor speed violations at the intersections, the vehicles that jump red signals, and noncompliance of heavy and light vehicles with the traffic compulsory lane. The traffic law stipulates a fine of Dhs1,500 and six black traffic points for violators if the heavy vehicle does not comply with the obligatory route and a fine of Dhs400 for the light vehicle which fails to comply with the mandatory traffic line, and Dhs500 in the event of stopping in the “yellow box”.
Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al-Humaidi pointed out that the new radars will be operated at the intersections across the emirate. The radars will be activated after completing coordination with the General Services Department in Ras Al Khaimah and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, to draw the “lines” and install the signboards before these intersections. This is to alert the drivers of the presence of the radar, he added.
