Avoid fines on New Year Eve #RAKNYE: Keep these 10 points in mind

The bubble of excitement is getting bigger every minute as we inch closer to New Year's Eve #RAKNYE. Keep these tips in mind to avoid fines, penalties or any kind of trouble during your celebration.

You cannot afford to miss out on the magnificent celebrations - be it the spectacular fireworks that light up the horizon, or hitting those partying destinations with your friends and immersing yourselves in the festive spirit at the most happening family-friendly spots. Ras Al Khaimah will welcome 2018 with much aplomb offering visitors a variety of activities for entertainment.

The RAK Police has declared that it will take all precautions to provide public safety and security during the New Year celebrations, various patrolling units and specialised field forces will be deployed to ensure security at all places and we have listed out a few helpful tips below to ensure a safe, sound and wow NYE experience.

1. Reaching the Venue: Ras Al Khaimah will be accessible by buses plying to the emirate from most major bus stations, apart from taxis and private vehicles, most hotels will also offer residents’ shuttles to Al Marjan Island and other major tourist points

2. Timings: Commuters are advised to start early and reach the points of interest well in advance to avoid traffic jams and inconvenience on the roads during travel

3. ID Cards: All visitors, residents and tourists are advised to carry their Emirates ID and/or other forms of ID’s for verification just in case it is required, needless to say motorists are required to have their driving license handy at all times

4. Traffic Laws: For those driving down to RAK please be notified that traffic laws must be strictly followed at all times. General mandates include following speed limits, avoiding over speeding and refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol

· Wearing seatbelts is a must for passengers and drivers, failure to fasten seat belt will cost the driver monetary fines and black points

· Usage of phones or other distractions when driving will lead to serious fines

· Reckless driving can lead to confiscation of vehicle, fines and black points

· Avoid jumping the red light

· Driving a vehicle with expired registration and insurance will lead to confiscation of vehicle

5. Fines: Law enforcement agencies strictly supervise the keeping of cleanliness and order. Do not throw garbage out of the car on the move or practice littering in any form, since it will also entail serious fines ranging from AED 500 to AED 1000. Bon-fires on beaches and public areas are prohibited unless indicated otherwise.

6. Code of Conduct: Please exhibit respectful behaviour at all times, overt display of affection, violence and aggressiveness in any form is punishable

7. Dress Code: Dress modestly and in accordance with the theme of your celebration to avoid inconvenience and drawing unwanted attention

8. Nightlife and Entertainment: When visiting nightclubs and discos refrain from doubtful contacts and acquaintances. Be extremely cautious and you will avoid troubles and problems with local law enforcement agencies

9. Photography: Legislation imposes restrictions on taking photos or videos of government buildings, military and strategic structures, as well as private property without appropriate permission of the owner. Refrain from taking photos of female groups and before taking photos with the locals, you must get their approval.

10. Smoking and Alcohol: Please indulge in smoking/consumption of alcohol only as labelled appropriate at the venue. For clarity and more information please ask the representatives of the event for guidance and adhere to instructions as provided.
