Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the activities of Car Free Day initiative will be launched on Sunday 4th February 2018
Municipalities of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain have decided to join forces with Dubai Municipality to observe car-free day.
Car Free Day is an initiative pioneered by the Dubai Municipality for the first time in 2010, which is considered the first of its kind in the region, aiming to make Dubai a global sustainable city, and to prove its commitment towards the relevant international environmental conventions, which aims to reduce greenhouse gases emissions.
The initiative has been evolved dramatically during the subsequent years, which is directly attributed to the growing community involvement from different Governmental and Simi-governmental sectors, where the number of participants in 2015 reached 300 entities comparing with only two entities participated in the first year of the initiative in 2010, in addition to that the number of the personal vehicle that stop during the event went up to 30000 in 2015, where as in 2010 it reached 1000 vehicles only. Which contributed to Carbon footprint reduction in Dubai.
