Hosted by the Al Qasimi Foundation, the Eighth Gulf Comparative Education Symposium will be held from April 7th to 9th, 2018 at Hilton Garden Inn in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.
The theme of this year's Symposium is “Public, Private, and Philanthropy: Exploring the Impact of New Actors on Education in the GCC”, which was inspired by the increasing involvement of various public, private, and philanthropic actors in education in the Gulf region.
As the influence of these sectors becomes bolder and more visible, the need to explore their impact on education policy and practice within the region becomes more salient. This symposium will provide multifaceted perspectives on the role of philanthropic, public and private actors in the GCC education systems, the scope of these actors’ involvement within and across educational institutions, and the dynamics of interactions with key stakeholders (e.g. policymakers, teachers, students, parents, etc.).
Venue: Hilton Garden Inn in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE
Date: 7th to 9th April, 2018
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

About GCES:
The GCES is an academic society that was formed in 2008 to enable comparative and professional discourse on educational issues in the Arabian/Persian Gulf region. The Society aims to promote and develop collaborative and individual research activities that explore educational issues by hosting a series of annual conferences and workshops surrounding context-specific educational issues in the Gulf region, connecting academics, policymakers, educators and others through symposia and an online forum, and providing members with access to conference resources and publications.
As the GCES grows, it will continue to host regional meetings, conferences and workshops, as well as launch a newsletter as a way to share research and news among members.
In 2016, the GCES hosted its Seventh Annual Symposium in Kuwait. Join us and be part of the first society involved in comparative education in the Gulf region.
